Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Revised Draft Minerals Core Strategy Consultation

Consultation on the Revised Draft Minerals Core Strategy

The previous consultation, held during autumn 2010, has been scrapped and all has started again. This consultation is not site specific, instead, it is just talking about what minerals are needed and looking at the area. No site has been ruled out at this time. Work on the mineral site allocation document which will identify individual sites will recommence once the core strategy has passed through public examination. At that time, a detailed assessment will need to take place and will include Parley Court, which could have serious repercussions on the Forum area.

Details of the consultation are below:-

Dear Stakeholder

Consultation on the Revised Draft Minerals Core Strategy will begin on 15th July 2011 for an eight week period ending at 4pm on 9th September 2011.

The Minerals Core Strategy (MCS), once adopted, will set out the vision, objectives and proposed policies for extracting minerals, balancing the need to meet national, regional and local requirements with important social, environmental and economic considerations.

The previous consultation, held during autumn 2010, has resulted in some significant redrafting of the document and therefore the need to undertake this additional period of consultation.

Some of the main areas that the Revised Draft MCS has developed are:

  • The spatial strategy for aggregates, ball clay and Portland stone, including resource areas, broad areas of search and areas of opportunity for mining on Portland
  • A revised set of key issues reflecting more specifically the crucial mineral related, Dorset specific, issues that the strategy needs to address
  • A strengthened evidence base developed through working closely with the minerals industry and other specialist stakeholders and through a number of specific studies

The Minerals Core Strategy will not identify any specific sites for future mineral extraction. Specific sites will be contained within the Minerals Site Allocations Document and this will be subject to further public consultation in the future.

To aid this period of consultation we will be using an interactive version of the consultation document. By following the links from www.dorsetforyou.com/mcsto to the consultation portal pages you should be able to login and/or register your details and comment on the document.
