Vandalism on Holdenhurst Farm

Vandals have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the maize crop in the field between Townsend and Holdenhurst Village. A trail of destruction can be followed from the footpath to the south of the field to the wanton area of destruction within.

This crop is vital to the farm as winter fodder for the cattle and it is also believed that some of the cobs were used as missiles against cars travelling along Throop Road.

This Forum supports Townsend Together Team and sees all the tireless work done by those volunteers, the Youth Clubs and Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Strouden and Townsend.

The questions must therefore be asked:

"Do parents know where their children are and what they are doing?"

"Have you seen anyone around with their clothes covered in corn husks?"

Statistics show that with population increases forecast in the coming years and certainly before 2050, food shortages will become a reality in this country. Our working farms must be protected and we must fight against vandalism in any form.
